Preferred provider respite
If a trusted friend or relative is already helping, we can make it official.
You nominate. We employ.
Many families already have someone in their life who steps in: a family friend, an adult relative outside the immediate household, a former teacher or aide. Under the preferred provider program, you name that person and Inland Respite brings them on as an employee.
Everything on the compliance side becomes ours: background screening, onboarding, certification, training hours, timekeeping, payroll and documentation back to the regional center.
Standards every provider meets
- Screened and vetted against the safety standards required by the California Department of Developmental Services
- CPR and First Aid certified
- Five hours of pre-employment training before the first shift
- Harassment prevention training
- Ongoing professional development while employed
Who cannot be a preferred provider
State rules restrict paying certain household members for respite hours. If you are not sure whether the person you have in mind qualifies, call the branch before you promise them anything. We will tell you straight.
